Dance for Parkinson’s Exercise Class

Olwyn Lyons is a qualified dance instructor who has a studio in Dublin.  Olwyn travelled to New York to train for this specific dance to help people with Parkinson’s. It works on upper and lower body, hands, flexibility and coordination, it is not like a typical dance class as it incorporates different music and does not focus on one particular dance style, and therefore it is not  too complicated as it is based on the movement that helps rather than being a dancer.
The videos online give an  idea of the class as it will be adapted to suit our abilities with Early onset Parkinson’s.

Starting Tuesday the 14th September at 10.00 am

Cost is €50 for the 6 weeks and will  it be on Zoom

Email to register as soon as possible.

Program overview

The award-winning Dance for PD® program, founded in 2001, offers specialized dance classes to people with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and care partners online, in New York City and through our network of affiliates in more than 300 communities in 25 countries around the world. Dance for PD classes invite people with Parkinson’s to experience the joys and benefits of dance while creatively addressing symptom-specific concerns related to balance, cognition, motor skill, depression and physical confidence. The program, called “the gold standard for how a performing arts organization can make an extraordinary contribution to health and wellness” (Renee Fleming), uses dance to empower people with Parkinson’s and their care partners and families to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative.
