About the Webinar

The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 represents an important change in how decision-making capacity is understood and supported in Ireland.

For people living with a condition such as Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease, understanding these rights and protections can be particularly important when planning for the future, making healthcare decisions, managing finances or considering how decisions may be supported if circumstances change.

During this session, Con Barry and Lebeau Jonker of CKT Solicitors provided an accessible overview of the legislation and explored some of the key issues that people living with Parkinson’s and their families may need to consider.

Topics covered included:

  • What the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act means in practice
  • The principles underpinning assisted decision-making
  • Decision-making supports available under the legislation
  • Understanding decision-making capacity
  • Planning ahead and making your wishes known
  • Healthcare and personal welfare decisions
  • The role of decision supporters
  • What the legislation means for families and carers
  • Practical considerations for people living with Parkinson’s

Please note: This webinar provides general information and is not intended to replace independent legal advice. If you require advice about your own circumstances, we recommend speaking directly with a suitably qualified legal professional.

Our Thanks

EOPD Ireland would like to sincerely thank CKT Solicitors, and particularly Con Barry and Lebeau Jonker, for sharing their expertise and helping our community better understand this important area of law.

We hope this session provides useful information and greater confidence for people with Early Onset Parkinson’s and their families when considering decision-making and planning for the future.
