Parkinson’s Research Webinar with Professor Saranna Fanning, July 2nd

We are honoured to host a special webinar featuring Professor Saranna Fanning, Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
In this session, Professor Fanning will provide an update on the groundbreaking work taking place at The Fanning Lab, which is exploring the role of the metabolome in Parkinson’s disease and related conditions.
Date: Wednesday, 2 July 2025
Time: 7:00 PM (Irish Standard Time)
Location: Online via Zoom
This is a unique opportunity to gain insights into cutting-edge Parkinson’s disease research from one of the leading voices in the field.
About the Speaker: Dr. Saranna Fanning, PhD
Dr. Saranna Fanning is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Originally from Ireland, she completed her BSc and PhD in Microbiology at University College Cork, conducting research at UCC, Columbia University (New York), and Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh).
She conducted her postdoctoral research on disease-related protein toxicity with Dr. Susan Lindquist at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, MIT. Dr. Fanning joined the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in 2017. Her research is focused on understanding complex genetic interactions and identifying therapeutic targets for Parkinson’s disease, Lewy Body Dementia, and other synucleinopathies.
About The Fanning Lab
The Fanning Lab investigates how the metabolome, particularly the lipidome, is altered in Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. Their research is driven by the urgent need to discover mechanism-based treatments for these complex conditions.
The team integrates genetic and pharmacological approaches using cellular systems, patient-derived neurons, and other disease models to identify new therapeutic targets. Notably, their discovery of Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) as a potential target has progressed into clinical trials, offering new promise for Parkinson’s treatment.
