🚴♂️Brendan is Making an Incredible Journey for Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease Ireland
Brendan Treacy is about to embark on an incredible 800km cycle from Mizen Head to Malin Head to raise vital funds and awareness for Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease Ireland in honour of his brother, John, who is living with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease.
As Brendan prepares for this remarkable challenge, we’d like to share, in his own words, why this journey means so much to him.
“I remember first thinking, at the age of 9 or 10, how great it would be to cycle the length of Ireland. As often happens, life took over, and it was only when I got back to cycling some 10 years ago that I revisited the idea.
The cycle begins at Mizen Head on Monday 6 July and finishes at Malin Head on 14 July. The group comprises 15 cyclists, many of whom are marking the 25th anniversary of completing the same challenge together.
In my case, having turned 70 this year, I’m thrilled to attempt to fulfil my boyhood ambition. That is my principal motivation, but if some financial benefit can accrue to EOPD Ireland, that, for me, would be a very welcome bonus.
I chose EOPD Ireland because my brother John has Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease, and his very positive approach to managing and fighting the condition is greatly enhanced by the organisation and the support it provides to John and others who share his situation.
I also feel that neither the scale of the problem, nor the work EOPD Ireland is doing, is widely known. I hope my efforts might help raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s and of the incredible work being done by the charity.”

Our Chairperson, Joe Condon, said:
“On behalf of everyone at Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease Ireland, I want to thank Brendan for taking on this remarkable challenge. His determination and generosity are truly inspiring. Brendan’s story is a powerful reminder that behind every diagnosis is a family, and behind every family is a community that wants to help. By cycling the length of Ireland, Brendan is not only supporting his brother John, but every person living with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease across the country. We wish him every success and are incredibly grateful for his support.”
Brendan’s journey begins on Monday, 6 July, and over the following nine days he will cycle almost 800 kilometres from Mizen Head to Malin Head alongside 14 fellow cyclists.
Every kilometre represents hope, every donation helps us continue providing vital support, advocacy, education and community for people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease throughout Ireland.
If you can, please support Brendan by making a donation and sharing his fundraiser with your family and friends.
Thank you, Brendan. We’re all behind you and can’t wait to follow your incredible journey. 💙🚴
